Reverend Kevin L. Nelson is a native of San Antonio. In 2010, Pastor Nelson was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree from San Antonio Theological School. He has studied at the Bexar County Sheriff's Office Training Academy, San Antonio, Texas; studied courses in counseling at McClennon Community College, Waco, Texas; Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Sociology, Paul Quinn College, Dallas, Texas, and a graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School of San Antonio, Texas.
He was ordained in the ministry on August 27,1984. He served as pastor of New Birth Baptist, San Antonio, Texas for seven years; Deputy Sheriff of Bexar County Department for eight years and presently is pastor of Calvary Baptist Church where he has served since December 2001.
He is President of the Baptist Ministers Union of San Antonio and Vicinity, served as president of the Guadalupe District Baptist Association Congress of Christian Workers, a board member of CCSA-Community of Churches for Social Action, and serves on the board for Bridge Builders. He works, serves, and shares with many other Christian Organizations and Community Agencies throughout the City of San Antonio and the state of Texas. Because of his tireless work for the needs of others, he was inducted into the Clergy Hall of Fame in 2017. He has many titles, but the one he is most proud of is “Child of God”.
He and his wife Carla are the proud parents of a daughter, Kayla.
